Hello! My name is Navneet Vaibhav. I have been working in the field of Digital marketing since 2013, and therefore I have something to tell you
Starting today, I am launching a series of articles on how to independently promote your site in search engines. In the future, this will turn into a full-fledged course.
I will try to present the information as clearly as possible so that it is easy to digest, even if you are a computer teapot
. And the knowledge gained will be supported by practical assignments. In short, you can master the basics of search engine optimization without special skills and abilities.
Who is the course suitable for:
Novice businessmen and start-ups who have only a small amount of funds for promotion.
Small and medium-sized businesses who are not ready to pay from 30,000 Rupee per month for SEO. In this case, you can delegate the task of promoting the site to your subordinate and give the task to study this course.
Novice SEO specialists. Studying the presented course will be a good start in the field of SEO.
Marketers whose SEO is not the main profile in their activities.
You are just interested in the topic of promotion, and you want to try to promote your project.
In the same article, I will briefly describe the entire promotion process, from domain registration to comprehensive site optimization and bringing it to the TOP of search engines.
Basically, this will be the course content with short comments. But first, let’s get a little understanding of the terminology.
What is SEO?
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a set of measures aimed at improving visibility in search engines such as MSN and Google.
This can be expressed both in an increase in positions in the search results and in an increase in traffic (site traffic).
The main advantage of SEO
The ability to get free traffic from search engines in the long run. And this means a constant influx of customers or income from advertising on the site in automatic mode. Even if you stopped investing resources in SEO at some point, search traffic can remain at the same level for a long time.
But there are also downsides to SEO. Search engine optimization results usually take a long time. For new sites, the first results can be seen from six months to a year. For old sites — from 1 to 3 months. But here we are still talking about a gradual increase in traffic from search engines. You can not even count on instant growth. And you can also lose all SEO achievements in one moment if you start doing something wrong on the site. The site can be sanctioned for posting spam links, re-optimization of texts on the site, winding up behavioral factors, the presence of viruses on the site, etc.
If you are not afraid of difficulties, and you are ready to wait for the results as long as necessary, then let’s get down to the study of SEO. Below is a step-by-step guide to promoting your website. This does not mean that you need to act exactly in the specified sequence. But this diagram gives a general idea of how to proceed.
Step-by-step instructions for self-promotion of the site:
- Choosing a niche and determining the theme of the site.
- We select and register a domain (website address).
- We link the domain to the hosting, where the site files will be located.
- We develop the site structure.
- We select the semantic core (list of promoted phrases) and carry out clustering (the breakdown of phrases into groups). At this stage, the site structure can be significantly expanded, since the selection of key phrases allows the process to find more branches from the collected sections.
- We create/modify a site based on the developed site structure. At the initial stage of promotion, it is important to define a clear structure of the site so that later it does not have to be redone several times.
- We carry out internal website optimization. There is a large number of requirements for the technical part of the site that must be followed. You can read more about this here.
- We connect web analytics. At a minimum, you need to install Google Analytics counters. You also need to set up goals for tracking user behavior (for example, a purchase or an application, viewing more than 3 pages, time spent on the site, etc.).
- We begin to fill the site and carry out basic work to optimize the site pages.
- We are gradually starting to build up the external link mass.
- We analyze competitors and, on the basis of the data obtained, we do work to improve the commercial factors of the site.
- It is advisable, at least at the first stages of promotion, to connect other channels of attracting traffic, such as contextual advertising, display advertising, social networks, reference books, youtube, news portals, etc.
- This will create activity on the site, which will definitely be recorded by the search engines, which will take this into account when ranking (sorting sites in search results).
- This will help “rock the site” in the absence of any activity on it.
- If you are not afraid of difficulties, and you are ready to wait for the results as long as necessary, then let’s get down to the study of SEO. This will help “rock the site” in the absence of any activity on it.
We are constantly doing work to improve behavioral factors. At the moment, behavioral factors play one of the key roles in SEO. But in no case SHOULD YOU CHOOSE user behavior, otherwise, you can get a filter that will reduce the site’s search traffic to zero for a long time. This is especially closely followed by Google. Conclusion: it is necessary to carry out work to improve the usability (usability of the site) and then the behavioral factors will naturally improve on the site.
We continue to fill the site with useful content and build up external link mass. On the site, you can post not only information about the company’s services but also publish information and educational articles on your topic. The more quality content a site has, the better for SEO. As far as external links are concerned, this issue needs to be approached very carefully. It is important not to allow “link explosion” (a sharp increase in links to the promoted site from third-party resources). It is necessary to gradually increase the link mass and place links only from authoritative thematic resources.
It is also recommended to periodically re-check the technical parameters of the site, which were mentioned in the 7th paragraph. Over time, errors can accumulate on the site, which is important to quickly eliminate.
When working with big data, we set up an automatic output of SEO parameters. For example, automatic data substitution in the title tag (title in the browser) and the meta description tag (short description of the page) in the case of sections and products of an online store. It can be more than 100 thousand pages, where keywords will be automatically substituted.
We optimize individual pages where necessary.
This could be:
optimization of title, description, and h headings;
inserting key phrases into the text;
addition / change of text;
elimination of signs of spam;
posting photos and inserting keywords in alt;
revision of the page design;
improving the usability of the page;
setting up micro-markup (to design a snippet in search results);
analysis and implementation of commercial factors;
placement of external links to the promoted page;
and other works necessary to increase the visibility of the site in search engines;
We always track site statistics. We draw conclusions based on analytics, we carry out constant website optimization.
This is how the site promotion scheme looks like. Wrote this walkthrough on the go. Therefore, I think this article will be repeatedly refined and supplemented. But you already have a basic understanding of SEO.
Until next time and look forward to the next publications!
